Writing for Internet

Many studies indicate that reading long text on a computer screen is uncomfortable for users. Jakob Nielson, internationally recognised expert on "Web Usability" reports that 74% of test users quickly skim over each new page rather than reading the text word for word. The pages are scanned for in search of relevant key words.

Those who write for internet must take this fact into account. " Nielsen and his colleague John Morkes recommend that:

Articles are structured using two or three headings
Headings should include key words that identify the content of the text
Articles should be approximately 50% shorter than those writen for print
Layout should promote legibility ie. use lists or tables instead of long blocks of text
